An exhibition of images to celebrate CircusFest at The Roundhouse, London.
Phil Fisk was approached by Leila Jones, Circus Director of the Roundhouse to produce a series of pictures for CircusFest2012. The idea and the challenge he set himself was to try and take circus skills out of context and away from stage performance images. The other challenge was to make theimages as epic as possible, in order to fill such an imposing space as The Roundhouse.
“The themes of the photographs were suggested by the kind of everyday headlines we read in the newspapers. So celebrity scandals in hotel rooms, stowaways, and stories about care
homes provided a springboard for the shoots. The exciting part was throwing ourselves open to the elements and the physical restraints of performing on a wire in a nightdress with rain and a galeforce wind.”
The series was made possible with a grant from the Arts Council of England.
